This is our first interview for the person of the week on the writeaboutme.com website. The first person chosen was a man named Eddie Marini. As I was interviewing him I learned that this man isn’t just a regular everyday person. Eddie is an intensely passionate well rounded good man that deserves for the world to know him better. Sitting down with Eddie I had the opportunity to ask asked him some questions in order to get to know him even better.

The first question I asked Eddie was to tell us about himself? Eddie currently lives in Rockaway Park, New York City. He works as bartender in Manhattan, and at Friday night fights. Eddie is also an amateur Thai fighter with a record of 5 and 1. Eddie was recently injured and hasn’t fought in about 8 months, but plans to return to the ring in October of 2011.

I asked Eddie does he consider himself successful? Eddie explained that he trains and works hard at everything he does, he is extremely dedicated, and with hard work he has been able to bring himself a long way. He stated that success only comes with hard work. He strongly believes in having life goals; hurdles should never set you back. Eddie expressed to me that without a struggle in life you will never really understand true happiness. This is life’s process and for him he has finally reached a point where he believes that he’s on the right path.

I also asked Eddie what he new about our website? Eddie expressed that he liked our website because it is very positive and that he found it uplifting. He feels that it is an excellent way to say thank you to people and for the world to see. When a person has the opportunity to write about someone to say thank you, they give them a sense purpose and it reminds them that people do recognize and remember the good things you do in life.

I asked Eddie what was his philosophy towards life? Eddie told me something that he lives by every day he said: TO QUIT IS NOT AN OPTION; wow these were some very strong words. They gave me chills when he said it. These are words that everybody should live by. He doesn’t live by these words just while fighting but in everything he does, this is something I’ll never forget.

I asked Eddie if he had to tell a kid something what he would tell them? Eddie would look at them and tell them to relax, step back and reflect on what you’re doing before you get frustrated. When you take a moment and step back you can asset the situation and find a solution for the problem.

I asked Eddie what was one of his greatest strengths? Eddie believes that one of his greatest strengths is how well he works under pressure. When you look at his face sometimes it looks extremely intense. He’s not mad, he’s concentrating on the task at hand. Extreme situations call for extreme focus. He always tries to stay focus on the goal at hand instead of focusing on pressure.

I asked Eddie who motivates him to do the best in his life? His mother was his mentor, growing up he was kind of a knucklehead and she always stood by his side. His mother was a single parent and it could be rough on her at times. He understands now, that her sacrifices to provide him a warm strong home environment have taught him the meaning of dedication. He loves her and adores her and wants her to know that he truly appreciates all of her sacrifices.

I asked Eddie what has he learned about his mistakes in life? Mistakes have taught him he needed to become more mature. He needed to realize that the things he had done in his past hurt and affected other people as well as himself. He had begun to realize the consequences of his actions. Now he thinks more before he does anything. He does not believe there are any short time solutions for big problems in life. The way to handle a problem is to work on the solution a little bit at a time. You should always take your time to try to assess the problem first.

I asked Eddie who was his mentor in life? His mentor is his Uncle Shawn Johnson. His uncle is a firefighter for the F.D.N.Y. He said that his uncle is a good man and provides for his family. He only hopes to one day possess the same values that his uncle has. His life has also been changed while he was in Thailand. The people of Thailand had taught him extreme disciple while he was learning Thai fighting.

In closing, you never know whom you are going to meet in this world or whom you are sitting next to. When I asked Eddie to be are first person of the week. I only knew him as a good teacher at the gym. Now I consider him a good friend. I can say this that he’s a good man but I know that he’s on his way to being a great man. Thank you Eddie for the interview, don’t ever change your doing well.
